I’ve been listening for the sound of beloved feet; there’s a path through the house that leads to the sea

During the summer of 2016 I lived in the author Anni Blomqvist’s house on the island of Simskäla, Åland. Anni lost both her sons and her husband to the sea during the course of her life and it was the first of these tragedies, the storm that took her eldest son and husband, that prompted her to start writing. Her books were widely read, particularly in Finland and Sweden. This video, which works as a visual poem, is my attempt to give Anni and her husband a chance to be with each other in the end and to get to say good bye. At the same time, it does the same for me with my grandmother.
